M.A.C. in the Parks
Hot Springs Parks and Recreation’s Mobile Activity Center visits area parks from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. to offer
games, arts, crafts, and nature activities for children and families. Look for
the white city van and the banner, along with Ms. Dee, program director, at the
following locations and times: Mondays: Entergy Park; Tuesdays: Family Park;
Wednesdays, Wade Street Park; Thursdays, Hollywood Park. For more information,

2009 Manataka Summer Gathering
Hot Springs Convention Center hosts a free Traditional American Indian Religious
Ceremony and Family Gathering beginning at 1 p.m. in Convention Center Plaza.
Learn the true meaning and significance of Hot Springs Mountain, “Manataka” -- the “Place of Peace” for all Native American Indian cultures. Witness the powerful and spiritual
traditions of the Sixth Sun Aztec Dancers; experience the ceremonies blessing
Manataka Medicine Lodge, as well as flag, fire, pipe, and naming ceremonies.
The event features an Honoring of Elders, Friendship Dance, and drumming and
singing. Lawn chairs, blankets, drums, flutes and rattles are welcomed and
encouraged. This special event requires an attitude of respectful silence
during ceremonies and dances. Sponsored by Manataka American Indian Council.

Through June 30 - Art in the Recycled Box at Hot Springs Mall
An showcase of collage known as “assemblage” after the style of visionary artist Louise Nevelson will remain on exhibit
through the end of June at the Hot Springs Mall. St. John’s Catholic School students, from pre-K through 8th grade, created the artwork
from recyclable materials. Also supporting the project are: Hot Springs
Documentary Film Institute; WOW Village for Big and Little Kids; and the Morris
