Lakeside Students Tour Europe
Patricia Epperhart, Spanish Teacher for Lakeside High School, recently returned from chaperoning five 2nd-and-3rd-year Spanish students on a whirlwind tour of Europe. For some, this was their first trip abroad. Activities included: seeing Picasso’s home in Montmartre; touring Paris and the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and cruising up the Seine River; touring Versailles and taking a high-speed train to Provence past vineyards and orchards. This was the first train trip for all of the students, and they continued to Arles, where the group stayed in the hotel where Van Gogh painted his famous work, “The Yellow Cafe.” The students took calligraphy lessons, fencing lessons, and then traveled to Spain where they visited a cooking school and learned to prepare authentic Spanish Food. In Madrid’s Reina Sofia museum, they viewed Picasso’s famous work, “Guernica.” During the trip, the group viewed many Roman ruins and aqueducts and practiced speaking both Spanish and French.
