Gallery Walk, October 3

Gallery Walk gives an opportunity to stroll beautiful downtown Hot Springs and enjoy some of the finest contemporary art in America. The art galleries that sparkle like a fine necklace are located in the heart of the Victorian downtown district. They stay open until 9 p.m., often with music and complimentary refreshments. The artists whose works are on display also turn out to chat with visitors to the galleries. ?Come to the Low Key Arts Building from 8 p.m.-midnight for a Sadie Hawkins dance party with Brian Martin, Luna Tart, Lurleen and The Itinerant Locals. An art opening will feature the new, solo work of Rebecca Rebouche from New Orleans. Gustav blew Rebouche to town where she spent the month of September building her show on site. Her mixed media paintings are thoughtful, refreshing and colorful, incorporating bits of cloth, paper, thread and other findings in with the paint on her illustrative canvases.

40th Annual Hot Springs Arts and Crafts Fair, October 3-5

The 34th Annual Arkansas Oktoberfest, October 3-4

?The Arkansas Oktoberfest is a German-themed festival that attracts thousands of people each October to Hot Springs. Musicians and artists bring both culture and entertainment to the event, which features traditional German music as well as many other genres. Arts and crafts, German foods, traditional food and dancing are among the many attractions at Oktoberfest. The weekend is full of activities in Historic Downtown Hot Springs. 17th Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival, October 17-26

The Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival is an annual event that accepts nonfiction film submissions for one of the country’s premier nonfiction film celebrations. This fest honors films and filmmakers each year in beautiful Hot Springs National Park. More than 90 films are screened, including the current year’s Academy Award nominees in nonfictions categories. St. John’s 2008 “100 Years of Discovery” Bazaar, October 24

Come to the St. John’s 2008 “100 Years of Discovery” Bazaar on Friday, from 10a.m.-10 p.m. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and a spaghetti dinner from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Children can enjoy games from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. The silent auction goes all day and the live auction will start after dinner. 2008 Toyota Women’s Bassmaster Tour on Lake Hamilton, October 23-25

The championship event of the 2008 Toyota Women’s Bassmaster Tour fishing series will be held October 23-25 on Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs and will determine the 2008 WBT Angler of the Year, who will become the first woman in history to qualify for the world-famous Bassmaster Classic. Priority registration is open to the top 35 pros and co-anglers in the 2007 Toyota WBT Angler of the Year standings beginning at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 20. Registration will open at noon Tuesday, Dec. 4, for all BASS members who wish to sign up for all four regular-season events.
